operation Letters

During WWII era, a high school teacher from Taylorsville High School corresponded with former students that were serving our country stateside and abroad.  She kept a scrapbook of all the letters she received over the years.  These were handed down to another teacher who was considered our local historian.  After her death, her daughter wanted to connect with descendants from the ones who wrote the letters and return them so they can share with all of their family.

We got involved to research the Veterans and help find relatives so these could be returned.  At first we thought this to be a relative easy process since we are from small town USA, but we quickly realized the task would be much more in depth.  We have tracked family from states all across our country including Washington, California, Utah, Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi.  It has been an amazing journey and the stories that we have discovered from the families across the country.  We are still in the process of researching and returning these letters. 

In order to help preserve these amazing heirlooms to our local history, we scanned and digitized these to share with our community for years to come.
